Righteous and Being Saved

When we think of royalty, especially today, the royal families of Europe or the Middle East, most likely stand out. Sporting million-dollar luxury cars, cruising on super yachts that are just weekend toys, and using helicopters like we use a taxi are a far cry from our pedestrian lives. Pomp and circumstance accompany a multitude of ceremonies.

Yet, it wasn’t so for Jesus, king of heaven and earth.

The law, fulfilled

This is because Jesus came as a servant. He devoted himself fully to serving God and man. Remember, that is how He broke down the “whole law” in Matthew: “First, love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Second, love your neighbor as yourself.”

This is the law that Jesus kept completely, and that we have been rebelling against since our births. Because He kept it, He could be the sacrifice required to pay for our sins. But that is a story for next week!

Thanks be to God to for the Law fulfilled, in our Lord and Savior!

The Coming King of Zion

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
    Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
    righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
¹⁰ I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
    and the war horse from Jerusalem;
and the battle bow shall be cut off,
    and he shall speak peace to the nations;
his rule shall be from sea to sea,
    and from the River to the ends of the earth.
¹¹ As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you,
    I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
¹² Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope;
    today I declare that I will restore to you double.

Holy Week Service Times: Please note the details for this year’s observance.

• The Passion Readings, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday services will be posted ONLY online. No services will be held at church.
• Easter morning will feature breakfast at 8 am and the Divine Service at 10 am in person..

Bible Study: Our midweek Bible study is on hiatus during Lent and will resume after Easter. Sunday morning class meets at church at 10 am.
