Many religious teachings surround each of us, competing for our heart and conscience. Even under the name “Christian,” many claims of truth compete with each other. How can we sort them out?

St. James Lutheran’s Information class helps examine the many teachings around us in the light of God’s Word and the history of the Christian Church. This class is presented in two parts.

Part 1. Jesus, His Claims and His Church

This overview consists of five sessions. It will help you understand the many religions that surround us today.

We start with the very words of Jesus. We listen to what He claims about Himself and offers to those who believe His words. The class then follows through the Old Testament Scriptures that foretell His coming. Next we study the main events in the life of Jesus, followed by an overview of the events encountered by the faithful up until the time of the Reformation in 1517 AD.

Part 2. The Doctrines Taught in the Holy Scriptures

These are some of the most common — and most important — questions about our lives and the work of the Church. The answers all come from the Bible.

  • How do we obtain knowledge of God?
  • What does God reveal about His nature and person?
  • How does God communicate with us?
  • How do we gain righteousness acceptable to God?
  • What is the Church?
  • What is the job of pastors?
  • What about Baptism?
  • What about Holy Communion?
  • What kind of worship pleases God?
  • What happens at death?
  • When will the end of the World be?
  • What about judgment day and heaven?

We hope you will be able to attend this free class, so give us a call. While you’re at it, please share this information with friends and family.

The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John testified about him. He cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.’”

From his fullness we all received grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only born Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has declared him.

— John 1:14-18

The Word of the Lord endures forever.
